1st night with Finley (June 2, 2011)...

We are in a power outage right now for about the last 3-4 hours.  They finally brought a fan to the room yesterday.  So much better.  It is so hot in here.  Last night was a roller coaster for Finley.  She would play a bit, very solemn.  But then it was as if she remembered she wasn't where she should be and she would wail and point to the door.  Pitiful.  She did start walking around the room cautiously. She watched me brush my teeth and allowed me to brush hers without toothpaste.   She watched me wash my hands in the sink.  I gave her a sponge bath in the sink.  She did very well.  May tackle hair washing tonight.  It needs it, but taking baby steps.  I set her on the potty seat.  She didn't know what to think but didn't cry.  I put lotion on her and then carried her to the bed.  She laid back for me to put a diaper on her.  And pushed her arms through in her pj shirt.  I put the legs of her pj bottoms on her and turned to get something.  She was standing on the bed trying to pull her pants up!  She loved her elephant pj's.  She petted the elephants.  Then she proceeded to have several meltdowns in a row.  She wanted to leave and kept pointing toward the door.  She doesn't tantrum, but will weep uncontrollably and cling to my neck.  She needed her shoes on, I guess because she wanted to leave, but I'm gonna say it's because she has a love of shoes like her mother!  Anyway, I laid her down and she slept till the middle of the night.  She would awake, kick a little and raise up and look around.  I kept pulling her towards me because I was afraid she was going to fall off.   Once when she awoke, she drank water from a sippy cup (just introduced yesterday! Now thinking she might be a genius!)  and played with my hair until she fell asleep.  Overall, I would say it was a good night.

Yesterday we applied for the travel document which takes 7-14 days.  Finley's medical is today, where she will receive a TB skin test.  We will return in 2 days to have it read.  Once the travel document is received.  I will email the US embassy for an appointlent which will consist of an interview and turning in paperwork for Finley's Visa.  The visa will take 2 days to process.  I will return to the embassy to get the visa and then we can go to the airlines to get Finley a ticket to come home. Mine and Erin's return ticket date can be modified from the US through Marcus and Patty (super travel agent).  So please pray that all processes go quickly, but especially the travel document since it has the most unpredictable time table.  Would love to come home ASAP!  Can't wait for Finley to be surrounded by loved ones (gradually of course).

The following is from The Valley of Vision - A Collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions.

The Grace of the Cross
O my Saviour,
I thank thee from the depths of my being
for the woundrous grace and love
in bearing my sin in thine own body on the tree.
May thy cross be to me
as the tree that sweetens my bitter Marahs,
as the rod that blossoms with life and beauty,
as the brazen serpent that calls forth the look of faith.
By the cross crucify my every sin;
Use it to increase my intimacy with thyself;
Make it the ground of all my comfort,
the liveliness of all my duties,
the sum of all thy gospel promises,
the comfort of all my afflictions,
 the vigour of my love, thankfulness, graces,
and the very essence of my religion;
And by it give me that rest without rest,
the rest of ceaseless praise.
O my Lord and Saviour,
Thou hast also appointed a cross for me to take up and carry,
a cross before thou givest me a crown.
Thou hast appointed it to be my portion,
but self love hates it,
carnal reason is unreconciled to it;
without the grace of patience I cannot bear it,
walk with it, profit by it.
O blessed cross, what mercies dost thou bring with thee!
Thou art only esteemed hateful by my rebel will,
heavy because I shirk thy load.
Teach me, gracious Lord and Saviour,
that with my cross thou sendest promised grace
and that I may bear it patiently,
that my cross is thy yoke which is easy,
and thy burden which is light.

Thank you all for your continued prayers and support!

Love you all!
