June 4, 2011... communicating with Finley....

Today I have introduced the word "no" in English and meant it.  Finley is stir crazy in this room.  She will play for 20-30 minutes and then needs to get out.  She starts throwing things and waiting on a response.  She has now learned to put a few things in the trash vs the floor (about 50%).  She has spit in the sink a few times rather than the floor, but I have to be quick to get her there when she is brushing her teeth!  She was told "no" when she flipped my computer off the chair onto the floor.  That is my connection to the outside world!  When I put her hands in her lap and told her "no" , she just looked at me and there was a 30 second delay before she whimpered.  Then all was fine.  Erin, seeing the panic in my face (and because it is her connection to the outside world too!) picked up the computer to see if it could be revived and it was fine.  Thank you God.  See, God even cares about the little things!

The three of us ventured to Chops cafe this am for breakfast.  Finley ate a cup of chopped fruit with a baby fork that was just her size.  It looked so good, but Erin and I know not to eat fresh fruits or vegetables because it is likely that we could get sick.  I was able to read to Finley from my Nepali cheat sheet (thanks Bobby)  "bubu khane?" meaning "do you like Milk?"  which was a life saver last night and this morning.  After breakfast I just walked Finley up and down this corridor that has shops but no traffic.  She held my hand and sang songs that were so cute but that I did not understand a word of.  Every once in a while she would look up at me and smile.  We made our way up to the room where I said, "nunu garne?" meaning "Do you want to sleep?"  She ignored me for a while and then cried.  I held her till she fell asleep.  So we are up to 2 big meltdowns and 1 minor.  It's not even lunch yet.  Bobby is going to take us to the New Beginnings orphanage today so we can see it and Finley can play with the children.  Bobby is the vice president (maybe?- has a lot to do with the operation of it) of the orphanage and it is sponsored by New Beginnings in Tupelo, MS

Miss my friends and family.  Thanking God for all things big and small including safety, smooth processing to this point, bonding with Finley, good people here for support, prayers and support of those at home, that my brother is liking my dog Charlie, for a precious circle of family/ friends/church family and for a gracious travel friend (Erin).    I am especially grateful to my friend, Connie, who is my ground support for the blog and many other details.
 Big love to you all.
